April 5th 2013: 100 Young Entrepreneurs Build Businesses in 54 hours
PRESS RELEASE: Hong Kong is preparing to welcome its fourth Startup Weekend, a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs sharing the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. The non-profit organisation is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, but Startup Weekend events can be found in cities around the world, from Mongolia to South Africa, Canada to Brazil! The basic idea of the event - which will run from from April 12th-14th at M21 in Aberdeen - is to bring people together for a weekend-long experiential workshop. Hong Kong's Startup Weekend aims propel our budding business community in the right direction, with attendees pitching ideas, forming teams and developing business models that will be judged by a panel of experts. Experienced mentors, coaches and judges will be available to guide the teams through the experience. These includes the honorable Mr Charles Mok, Legislative Councilor Felix Lam, Cedric Delzenne , Simon Newstead (Frenzoo), Wai Lun Hong (Snaptee), Steven Kopec (Tuner Asia Pac) and Steve Holmes (Thought Sauce). In addition, Localiiz Founder and Director Richard Codron will be there to share his extensive expertise. After a weekend of work, final presentations will be delivered on Sunday evening to the panel of judges. Experienced industry veterans, such as Paul Orlando (StartUps Unplugged) , Elaine Ann (Kaizor Innovation) and Andrew Kwan (Peacock) will review the presentations and crown the winners of this year's Startup Weekend Hong Kong. No other entrepreneurship event in Hong Kong can compete with Startup Weekend in terms of the real tangible impact it has on participants and society. Some ideas that turned in successes stories after last year's event include Aftership, FilmSkout and Perpetu. Startup Weekends in Hong Kong are successful due to help of the booming startup community and its supporters. For this round, M21.HK from the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups made the venue available, while the whole weekend is supported by OGCIO’s ITFEST.HK, an initiative backing Hong Kong’s ICT industry.
