With so many spas in Hong Kong offering the same services at different prices and quality levels, it’s no mean feat picking through the abundance of options on your quest for ultimate indulgence. In our new Spotlight on Spas series, Localiiz’s pampered princess
Crystal Wilde gives us the lowdown on where to go for what, kicking off with some
mani-pedi magic at
Iyara Day Spa.

I got a little hot and bothered on my quest to find Iyara’s Mid Levels outlet, tucked away in a tiny alley on Princes Terrace. As soon as I walked in the door, however, I was greeted by soothing music, gorgeous scents and a refreshing cup of lemongrass-infused tea, instantly putting me in the mood for some serious pampering.
Established in 2008, Iyara strives to “break the boundaries of the conventional, assembly-line nail salon” by offering customers a unique and tranquil escape from the city. With its natural wood, turquoise tiles and earth-tone decor, this secluded hideaway really does feel like a mid-metropolis oasis.
I opted for the signature Spa Mani-Pedi, which comes with all the staples you’d expect, such as an exfoliating foot scrub, cuticle removal, nail shaping and polish, as well as a mini massage for both extremities.
Although Iyara offers a full range of OPI and Shellac gel colours, I stuck to the good old-fashioned ESSIE polish I know and love. However, I was absolutely amazed that my hot pink toes stayed looking sublime for almost three weeks - no need for gel there then! Apparently, the secret is a special pre-pedicure solution they use to clean the nails and remove oil, helping the polish stick like a winner.

Not surprisingly, Iyara co-founder Adeline says manicures and pedicures are their bread and butter. “When we first set up more than six years ago, mani-pedis weren’t so common-place, but now it’s just part of grooming,” she said. “People ask if we’ve seen a downturn in the recession, but we didn’t really notice any difference. It's almost like having a haircut and getting waxed - you just have to do it.”
Iyara also offers special intensive pedicures for the beastly feet of men, as well as massages, waxing, body wraps and scrubs. There’s even a romantic couples’ suite for those looking to combine spa days and date nights.
Iyara has outlets in Mid Levels, Central and Wan Chai. Visit their
Localiiz profile page for more info and contact details.
