Tried and Tested: 5 Best Skin Care Products for Winter

By Sophie Pettit 30 November 2015
The changing climate in Hong Kong, not to mention the high pollution levels, can wreak havoc on our poor little pores which might be crying out for some love. Luckily, we've tried and tested all the lotions and potions we could get our hands on to find you the secret to keeping hydrated, radiant, and blemish free all year long.

1. Snow Fox Skin Care Range

Calling all foxy ladies! If you’re on the hunt for organic, vegan, natural skin care products (are there any boxes these don’t tick?) then the Snow Fox Skin Care range is your ticket. These three products work together to give you “flawless skin” in three simple steps – wash, detox, and hydrate/protect. Start off with the peppermint based Soothing Facial Cleansing Mousse ($275) to create a soft, foamy lather to help rinse away grease and dirt first thing in the morning, before applying a dollop or two of the ginseng extract, olive fruit oil, and macadamia oil Day & Night Defense Cream ($432) to stay silky smooth and moisturised all day long. If you have more time on your hands (say 15 to 20 minutes) then the Arctic Breeze Detox Cooling Mask ($236 for a box of 5) idefinitely worth a try. Its soft, organic cotton surface, infused with organic peppermint oil extract, is super refreshing and great relief for puffy eyes. The best thing about these foxy treasures (apart from their gorgeous, fresh packaging) is that they contain no harmful chemicals or preservatives, which makes them gentle on sensitive skin.

2. Gooseberry Beauty Fig & Yarrow Buttercream

This creamy, yellow, buttery goodness might look more like cake mix than face cream – especially given the list of delicious ingredients packed in – but we promise it works wonders on your skin. Blending together shea butter, chamomile, grapefruit seed extract, jojoba oil, and rosemary leaf extract, the Fig & Yarrow Buttercream is non-greasy and super hydrating, making it the perfect antidote to tired and dry skin. Although it's slightly thicker than the other creams we tested (due to its buttery texture), it doesn't feel too heavy on your face. It does, however, take a little longer to sink into your skin, so it's a good idea to add a few extra minutes to your morning routine to let it absorb before you apply your makeup. Definitely better suited to your face than your stomach, this utterly buttery formula is a winner. Where to buy: Available online at Fig + Yarrow  How much: $377 (60ml)

3. Kiehl's Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque

This turmeric and cranberry seed based masque from Kiehl’s is the answer to all your dry skin woes. The star ingredients of the formula, which include anti-inflammatory turmeric extract, paired with antioxidant-packed and resveratrol-rich cranberry extract, work together to brighten dull and tired skin in just five to ten minutes. This invigorating mask also contains micronized cranberry seeds which gently exfoliate the skin as you wash the mask off. The great thing about this product, apart from the smooth, radiant glow it gives your skin, is the fact that it goes a long way. The rich and creamy texture of the mask means you only need to dip your finger in it once to get enough cream to cover your entire face – and the generous folks at Kiehl's make sure that every pot is filled right to the top! Where to buy: Available at Kiehl's stores How much:$265 (70ml)

4. Siam Roots Skin Conditioner

This gorgeous natural oil-based skin conditioner not only smells deliciously fresh and uplifting – thanks to the Thai lemongrass and ginger extracts – it also acts as excellent fodder for your skin. It only takes a few pumps into your palm and massaged over your face to enable the oil to penetrate the top layers of your skin and trap water beneath the surface to leave it feeling soft, smooth, and hydrated. Not only is this a cost-effective skin care solution, as a little goes a long way, but it's also extremely practical to take on holiday, as the bottle falls within the 100ml travel limit when flying overseas. With 100% natural essential oils packed in, including jojoba seed oil, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil, ginger oil, and lemongrass oil, you can also rest assured that this Siam Roots potion is free of any nasty chemicals and is gentle on your skin. Where to buy: Available at Siam Botanicals  How much:$274 (90ml)

One of the most versatile natural ingredients to ever grace our bathroom (and kitchen) cupboards, this tropical treasure is not only packed with vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, fatty acids, and proteins, it's also soothing and full of moisture, making it an absolute winner in our book. It's easy to go WILD for this little jar of goodness from local eco-brand Coconut Matter, especially as it's 100 percent Australian certified organic and smells absolutely divine. Just one dab is all it takes to gently cover your face each morning, leaving it deeply nourished and glowing. It's also great for soothing sunburn so make sure you stock up for summer!
