Roll Up Your Sleeves Hong Kong

Hong Kong is experiencing a blood shortage and our long sleeves are to blame. Climate sensitive Hong Kongers are known for quickly reacting to dipping temperatures, however it may be harming the chances of those in need from receiving life-saving blood transfusions. The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service told Localiiz that seasonal shortages are experienced every winter when the weather turns chilly. The reason behind the lack of donors is attributed to a reluctance to roll up one’s sleeve during the city’s colder months as well as some donors falling ill. The agency hopes that a minimum of 1,100 donors will roll up their sleeves each day for the next two weeks to bring Hong Kong’s blood levels back to normal. A single donation can help three or more patients in need surgery or for treating chronic diseases. Qualified donors must be in good health, weigh over 41kg (90 lbs), and be between 16 and 60 years of age. To find out more about how and where to donate click here.
