Localiiz Property Picks: Pet-Friendly Pads

By Jenny Leung 28 February 2017
Finding a pet-friendly home is no easy task in Hong Kong. Many landlords flat out don't allow it, and even if they do, there isn't an abundance of places available that are necessarily suitable for your furry friends (or non-furry, if you're one of those people that think lizards are a good pet). As such, we've scoured the market to find five properties - ranging from normal prices to frankly ridiculous - that would be ideal for pets big and small.

Tai Mong Tsai Road, Sai Kung

There are dogs in the picture and they don't look miserable. That was our first clue. Apart from the fact that Sai Kung is a good area for pets in general, this particular town house boasts a whopping 2,100 square feet of space and plenty of surrounding greenery for you and your little pal to explore. And, if you're just chilling at home, there's the lovely terrace that the dogs are loving in the picture.
  • $30,000 per month
  • 2,100 sq ft
  • 4 bedrooms (1 en-suite), open kitchen, terrace, car park

5 Headland Road, South Bay

A beautiful bit of real estate in a beautiful part of town. If you've got the cash, then you and your pets could be onto a winner. Not only are you a stone's throw away from one of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong, you'll also be living in pure luxury. This gigantic apartment features a huge, private garden which is obviously ideal for pets - even better, it's accessible directly from the living room meaning you can keep an eye on them frolicking while doing some relaxing.
  • $170,000 per month
  • 3,000 sq ft
  • Beautiful views over South Bay beach
  • Large, private garden
  • 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
  • Management fee includes garden maintenance

South Lantau Road, Tong Fuk Village

We gave you one place right next to the beach that's pretty much impeccable (and has the price tag to match), now here's another one at the other end of the spectrum. Not that we're saying it's a hole - on the contrary, it's quite lovely - and it's much more affordable, but with the trade-off being that it's quite remote and perhaps not as illustrious as South Bay. Still, this area of South Lantau is like Ibiza for dogs - trees, nature, open space, and clean air - and of course, the beach only minutes away. If you're okay with a bit of a commute to work, then it's insane what you can get for your money here.
  • $32,000 per month
  • 1,956 sq ft
  • 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
  • Garden, rooftop, mountain and sea view

Jade Beach Villa, 3-7 Horizon Drive, Chung Hom Kok

Chung Hom Kok is great for both human and domesticated animals alike - it's quiet, has it's own beach (that's seldom used except for the relatively small population that live there), is only 5 minutes away form Stanley Plaza (which is basically a purpose-built shopping mall for dogs), and is very much in touch with the more bustling areas of Hong Kong island with the all-night mini buses getting you to Causeway Bay in about 20 minutes. So that's the area, what about the property? Well, it's no slouch either, boasting a huge amount of space, a large, private garden terrace, and an open plan design that would suit pets to a tee. Ideal.
  • $110,000 per month
  • 3,680 sq ft
  • 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
  • maid's room
  • separate living and dining room
  • utility room
  • 2 car parking spaces
  • large garden and terrace
  • sea view

8 Pak Lai Road, Ma Wan

With what must be the biggest private garden on the list, clocking in at an impressive 4,393 square feet (that's just the garden mind), this Ma Wan property is a dog-lover's paradise. That along with the beach, parks, gardens, and general spacious serenity of the area - filled with plenty of other pet owners - makes it a pretty hefty contender. Oh yeah, the flat's really nice as well.
  • $70,000
  • 1,980 sq ft
  • 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
  • maid's room
  • huge garden and pool

Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Jenny grew up with the best of both worlds. She loves just about anything to do with music and doesn’t shy away from belting out a tune or two when it comes to karaoke. If she’s not out and about exploring the city and practising her photography skills, she’s probably tucked up in bed with a book or glued to her laptop doing her online shopping.
