Popcorn and Opinions - June 25

By Localiiz 25 June 2015
Summertime and the living is rainy! Rather than sitting around your tiny flat complaining about the weather, head for one of our cinemas. Although Jurassic World is still dominating the box office, there are other films on the big screen that deserve your attention too. Our in-house movie expert, Howard Elias, is here to tell us about three of them that have just arrived.

Far From the Madding Crowd

One woman, three men. Such problems. Carrie Mulligan (An Education) stars as Bathsheba, a headstrong young woman in Victorian England who inherits a farm and is determined to run it herself. But then the men get involved and screw things up for her. Even with the inevitable comparisons between it, Thomas Hardy's classic novel and the 1967 film adaptation, director Thomas Vinterberg's (The Hunt) version is well worth seeing. Showing at the AMC, BC, Grand and UA cinemas.

It Follows

It's zombie meets STD. Jay is a college student in suburban Detroit. She recently started dating Hugh, a guy she doesn't know all too well, but is willing to get to know better… and that's her first mistake. After a romp in the back seat of his vintage car, Jay learns that Hugh has infected her with something that makes her the target of a bogeyman who will be relentless in pursuing her until he kills her. Critics are loving this film, probably because of its style rather than its substance. If you're a fan of John Carpenter's horror/thriller films, this one's for you. Showing at the BC, Grand, MCL and UA cinemas.

Ted 2

Expect crass humour with this sequel to Seth (Family Guy) MacFarlane's 2012 comedy about a living, breathing teddy bear. This time around, Ted marries Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) and the couple try to have a child together through artificial insemination courtesy of Ted's best friend, John (Mark Wahlberg). Havoc ensues along the way and Ted finds himself in court trying to prove that he is human. What you see is what you get. Showing everywhere.
