Here at Localiiz, we love nothing more than supporting a good cause, especially when it involves making miracles happen. And it certainly will this Saturday when pigs will fly, quite literally.
Four brave Hong Kongers will leap off the world’s tallest bungee jump, the Macau Tower, dressed in loveable animal costumes, to raise money and awareness for
Sea Star Children's Foundation, a Hong Kong-based charity that helps save the lives of children in greater China suffering from congenital heart disease.
But why dressed as pigs you may ask? Quite simply because "Bungee Jump" in Chinese is “
笨猪跳” which translates as "silly pig jump". Well we’ll certainly be oinking them on, and we hope you will too after seeing this adorable video of the flying pigs in training.
Hurling yourself from a height of 233m is not for the faint of heart, but luckily future flying pig and law student Suki Yiu, is not short on courage. “I actually fear free falling and dislike roller-coaster rides. However, I’m willing to face my fear for a meaningful cause. I want to inspire those around me to believe in miracles and help Sea Star deliver hope to more families and children in need,” she told Localiiz.

Fellow flying fundraiser Andy Chang is terrified of heights but hopes that in addition to raising money for a good cause, the jump will help him overcome that fear. "When I was introduced to Sea Star, I was very impressed, not only with their ability to help affected families with funding, but also be able to provide them with the access to medical facilities and surgeons,” he told us.
The charity has raised over HK$1m dollars and helped 50 children and families since it was set up in 2012 by a group of young professionals working in the city. In 2013, the first two jumpers raised over HK$84,000 and the Sea Star team hope this will become an annual event to continue to raise awareness, support, and funds. It is certainly gaining support, with our resident celebrity porker
Kino lending his face, or rather snout, to front the campaign.
