Kong-Sum Wu, a 58-year-old hawker control officer, has died according to local news reports. The officer had been in a coma since Sunday after struggling with a hawker on Des Voeux Road Central and being pushed to the pavement. The incident was captured by a closed-circuit camera. The hawker fled the scene and later turned himself in to authorities.
Secretary for Food and Health Dr. Ko Wing-man extended his condolences to Wu's family. Ko said the department will provide whatever assistance Wu's family needs.
"Having joined the department for over 30 years, Mr. Wu served the community with dedication and perseverance," said Vivian Lau, Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene. "His performance was outstanding and he was held in high regard by colleagues. I am deeply grieved at the loss of such a devoted officer."
