Oceans Apart – Hong Kong Smashes Sushi Mosaic World Record

By Localiiz 9 January 2014
January 9th 2013 Hong Kong has entered into the Guinness Book of World Records under particularly fishy circumstances. On Wednesday (January 9th) more than 100 of the city’s chefs snapped on the plastic gloves, rolled up their sleeves and got to work creating the world’s largest sushi mosaic.

The seafood sensation, made up of 20,647 separate pieces of sushi and measuring 37.57 square meters, formed a colourful number 10 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong-based Taste of Japan Group – talk about an elaborate publicity stunt! Although the mosaic beat the previous record set by a Norwegian company by almost six square meters, sushi/animal lovers need not fret about all that prime protein going to waste. The platter of all platters was kept cool during its assembly (thanks to an ice rink setting) and donated to the Street Sleepers Action Committee and the Family Support Service Center of Kowloon District on completion.

Let’s hope there was enough wasabi to go around!
