1. Trump cardtrump

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump has proven to be the talisman of the Chinese novelties market. While China's exporters endured a rough 2016, some mainland firms managed to buck the trend through massive sales of Trump wigs, masks, and toilet paper.

2. Xi whiz

Xi Jinping made headlines this week as the first Chinese president to attend the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland. In his address, the world's most famous communist championed the idea's of globalisation and open markets. And the world collectively rolled its eyes.

3. Lam v Tsang

Carrie Lam and John Tsang both officially launched their campaigns this week to replace CY Leung as the next chief executive of Hong Kong. Lam says the Government needs "good policies", more transparency, and "new blood", whereas Tsang is pushing a message of hope and unity.

 4. C Ya

CY Leung delivered his final policy speech this week. In it, he outlined plans ranging from economic development to sports while avoiding addressing the city's bitter social and political divides. He also claimed that he had "basically" delivered in all his election pledges.

5. Parked

Police began a week-long campaign to crack down on illegal parking in the city on Friday. Complaints of absolute chancers parking in ridiculous places were on the rise throughout 2016. So, if you're out and about over the next week and thinking about doing some dodgy parking, think again. Might end up costing you.

6. Rubbed the wrong way

The real estate market in Hong Kong hit a depressing new low this week. A rental listing emerged boasting a "luxurious 250-square-foot flat" in Causeway Bay for a cool 5k a month. Sounds pretty good right? Turned out the "flat" was a massage room inside a foot rubbing parlour, and one that you can only use "between 11pm and 11am". Bargain.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Jenny grew up with the best of both worlds. She loves just about anything to do with music and doesn’t shy away from belting out a tune or two when it comes to karaoke. If she’s not out and about exploring the city and practising her photography skills, she’s probably tucked up in bed with a book or glued to her laptop doing her online shopping.
