Music Be the Food of Love

Stuck for choice on where to grab a bite with your loved one tonight? Well look no further than Kowloon City, where you can find a couple thousand places to dine, according to Hong Kong singer songwriter Kevin Kaho Tsui who explores the foodie paradise from a hungry boyfriend’s point of view in his latest track. Whether you fancy a bit of Thai, Indonesian, or Japanese, Tsui covers it all in his music video which pays homage to his "favourite food location". Close up shots of sticky egg tarts, fresh sushi, hundred-year eggs, and local market goodies are sure to tantalise your taste buds and inspire your next culinary excursion. But what makes the place so special? According to Tsui, it's not all about the food. “I spent almost every weekend around the area during my childhood, since my cousins lived there. I also go to Kowloon City with my parents and friends quite often in the past few years, for food. But apart from going there for food, I like to walk around just to see the mixture of the old and new stuff in the area.” Tsui certainly captures the feel of the place, flicking between shots of delicious cuisine and everyday street scenes in what he calls "location based songwriting". His love of live gigs, particularly the Brit Pop and Indie scene in the UK, coupled with his love of playing guitar, which began four years ago when he took YouTube tutorials in his bedroom, provided the inspiration for his own music which takes us on a culinary journey of Hong Kong. “My dream is to keep making great music that is different from everything else in Hong Kong,” he explained. “I would like to carry on writing in English about Hong Kong related topics to let the rest of the world understand and discover my music as well as learn more about my city. I would also like to one day have the chance to write a theme song or a TV commercial jingle.” Well Kowloon City certainly has us sold but where shall we eat tonight? “My favourite place to eat in Kowloon City is a little Thai Restaurant called Chaophraya and I love all their Thai cuisine.”
