Livin’ Easy: Keep the Kiddies Busy with the Best Hong Kong Summer Camps of 2014!

  The hot and sticky summertime is here once again, and for many of us a peaceful siesta is just what the doctor ordered. Sadly, the kids of Hong Kong show no signs of slowing down as they search for new ways to keep themselves in and out of mischief. Let Localiiz help you catch a break with a range of fantastic summer camps to get those loveable little devils off their iPads and out into the world beyond.

For Creative Souls Film Making Little fingerprints all over your smartphone? Chances are your arty offspring is a keen photographer. Shape their interest into a snappy skill by signing them up for the kids’ filmmaking workshop with Junior Snappers. They’ll get to sit in a (mini) director’s chair for the day and create their very own short movie, while learning all the magical tips and tricks used in the industry. The camp will be held in August, so stay tuned for upcoming dates! Music Is the 1,000th rendition of Frozen’s ‘Let it Go’ finally starting to get to you? Take that singing spirit and whisk them off to Katterwall’s Summer Music Camps. With a variety of classes for kids aged 4–6 and 7–10, Katterwall will equip your little singers with a repertoire that goes a little beyond the Disney classics. Music to our ears! For the 11–15 year olds, sign them up for the Katterwall Youth Music Theatre, and you’ll have a family band in no time. Classes run from July 7th to August 12th. Art If your child’s head is full of wonder and their schoolbook full of doodles, help them find their inner Picasso with Hong Kong Art Tutoring’s summer courses. Offering classes in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media, this North Point studio will have the kids go from mess to masterpieces in no time. Running weekly from June 16th to August 15th, classes come at HK$1,300 a week. Alternately, have an art attack and snap up two courses for a 10% discount or three courses for a 15% discount. Refine those painting palettes and book a spot now by emailing [email protected] or calling (+852) 9722-8353. Crafts Or, get them crafting like crazy with Fabric Art’s summer programme. They’ll learn all things textile with design techniques such as dyeing, printing, painting, stencilling, silk painting and more. They’ll also return home with a self-made summer tote bag – no doubt Mum’s going to be claiming that one! Workshops start on June 30th and will be held from 9:30am–10:45am and 11am–12:15pm. Circus School Tired of your little ones bouncing off the walls? Get them clowning around the right way at Hong Kong’s first circus school for kids, courtesy of Rumple and Friends. Let Rumple’s Silly Summer Circus teach little performers all kinds of fun (and downright daft) stuff like juggling, acrobatics, plate spinning, clowning and more. The summer circus will take place at the Hong Kong Arts Centre in Wan Chai and will be split into two sessions, with Week One running from June 30th to July 4th and Week Two from July 7th to July 11th. Each week will cost HK$3,000.

For Good Sports Karate Got a mini-Bruce Lee in your midst? Head to Chito Ryo Karate and sign them up for one of the many action-packed summer camps on offer this year. With a range of themed classes including Super Powers (July 9th–11th), Secret Ninja (July 14th–18th), Spar wars (July 21st–25th), Performance (August 4th–8th), and Commando Camp (August 11th–15th), these guys will see your tot turned into the new Karate Kid on the block! All camps cost HK$400 a day or HK$1,600 for the week, with early bird discounts available in June. Find out more on their Localiiz page and be sure to wax on, wax off. Gym Buddies For teens (aged 15–20) serious about health, get them training with the best at Hong Kong powerhouse Primal Strength. From June 12th to July 10th, youngsters can attend the 8am–9am session or 9am–10am class. Weight classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with circuit classes running on Wednesdays at 7:45pm. Sign up for the four-week (HK$3,800) or two-week (HK$1,900) programmes here and get those bodies pumping! Tennis Serve up an ace holiday activity with Peak Performance Tennis Academy’s smashing summer camps, starting on June 16th and ending on August 15th. Classes will be held weekly from 9am–12pm (five days) for HK$3,000, except for the week of June 30th (four days), which will cost HK$2,400. The camps cater to children aged 5–18, and will be held at Aberdeen Tennis and Squash Centre. Train them to bend it like Beckham with Asia Pacific Soccer School’s (APSS) summer soccer camps. For little kickers aged five and up, classes will be running from July to August at Stanley Ho Sports Centre, SCAA, YWCA, Australian International School, Kowloon Cricket Club, Sai Kung Town and Tung Chung Sports Center. Progress their footie skills even further with the APSS Nike Soccer Camp. Two sessions will be held this summer, with Camp 1 running from June 30th - July 4th at Hong Kong’s Australian International School, and Camp 2 running from July 7th - 11th at the Peak School. Aerial Acrobatics Got an adventurous little gymnast that's dying to try something different? Send them over to Pole Paradise Studio's Jungle Paradise Aerial Acrobatics Summer Camp! They'll be able to dabble in aerial hoop, silks and pole skills, having a great time while building strength and flexibility. They could just end up being the next member of Cirque Du Soleil!

Starting in July and running through until August, both Junior A classes (kids from 6-10) and Junior B classes (10-16) will be held at the Sheung Wan and Sai Kung studios. One course costs HK$800, but if you book a second course within the same month the cost will drop down to HK$700, and to HK$600 for a third course. Rugby Buffs Has your Sevens obsession swayed your youngin' to become a full on rugby fanatic? Put them to work with the Hong Kong Scottish annual Kids Camp in Discovery Bay (September 9th for HK$500). Led by Scottish's head coach Craig Hammond, the kids will be taught the ins and outs of rugby by one of the most experienced and highly qualified coaches in Hong Kong.

Tots under 12 will be able to participate from 9am to 12:30pm, and under 16s from 1pm to 4:30pm.
