Educated in Sichuan by Grand Master calligraphers, Fabienne Verdler has gained attention for showcasing a true fusion of East and West in her work. Despite being rooted in the teachings of Chinese calligraphy, Verdler’s methods are innovative, not least in her construction of a huge paintbrush made from the hair of 35 horsetails. It holds 60 litres of ink and is so heavy she invented a special system to keep it suspended while allowing freedom of movement. Fabienne Verdler – Crossing Signs will showcase the artist’s career from its beginnings in Sichuan right through to today.
