Got a business idea but not sure where to start? Kick off a week of creativity with an Introduction to the Hong Kong Startup Community, hosted by Localiiz recommended corporate training centre General Assembly. Aimed at helping newbies on the startup scene to get familiar with the world of entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, the event will be led by Casey Lau, co-founder of StartupsHK and Popcorn Media Network. Get the inside scoop on all the best events and meet ups to attend and the people, companies and blogs to look out for. Other important things to keep in mind when starting a business, such as incubator programmes, hot issues and venture capital, will also be explored. The class will end on a fun note, with drinks and networking. StartmeupHK Venture ForumThe StartmeupHK Venture Programme was created by InvestHK to help facilitate the growth of new ventures on a global scale and secure Hong Kong’s position as a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation. The StartmeupHK Venture Forum is the final stage of this scheme, where 12 finalists from around the world will pitch their business ideas to judges, investors and potential partners. Competitors will go through a round of elevator pitches followed by a second round of full pitches with questions and answers. Six finalists will then go on to compete for one of three Grand Awards. With presentations from John Tsang, Simon Galpin, Gregory So and Timothy Draper, the event will no doubt prove exciting and educational for all who attend. There will also be an optional partnership matching session after the forum. If you’re interested, be sure to state this when registering for the forum. NEST Pitch DayIf you’ve missed the chance to take part in the Venture Programme, don’t fret. NEST is giving you another opportunity to pitch your business idea on December 7th. Fill in the online application form and the NEST team will shortlist the ideas and businesses they feel best fit their ethos. Those selected will get the 15 minutes to present their business idea in person on NEST Pitch Day, before a 30-minute question and answer session. If the team likes your pitch and decide they want to invest, they’ll provide you and your business with up to HKD$500,000 in capital, along with mentorship, office space and hands-on support. Pitchers can bring anything from an initial idea to a young businesses to the table.
