June 3rd 2014 The sun is shining bright, and with the onset of June, summer has well and truly begun. While you may not have the dough to take that much-needed foreign vacation, you can still make the most of the month here in Hong Kong. Summer fun isn’t just for kids, so let us cool you down with a red-hot list of Fitness, Fun In The Sun, Learning, Mind & Wellness and Cultural Activities for you to jam out to this June! Operation Beach Bod It’s pretty easy to shed a bunch of water weight in the blistering Hong Kong heat, but why not take it up a notch and sweat your way to the perfect summer beach bod this month. Katterwall’s Kassia Choirs are holding two Love Song Concerts on June 16th at St John’s Cathedral and June 17th at the North Point Methodist Church. Come along and get blown away by some impressive pipes. If you’re finding yourself starved of symphonies and craving a more classical affair, you can always count on the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Start the month off with Case Scaligone’s debut Hong Kong performances with the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story on June 6th and 7th; shimmy on to grand celebrations with HK Phil’s 40th Anniversary Gala Concert, Symphonie Fantasique, on June 13th & 14th; and settle back down with the world’s favourite tragedy, as the concert version of Romeo and Juliet takes centre stage on June 20th and 21st. If this sounds a bit too heavy for the kids, lighten up their month with in the Swire Sunday Family Heroes in Music concert on June 22nd, and give them some inspiration as Hong Kong’s newest young protégé, 10-year-old Johnson Li, brings us Orchestral Adventures on June 25th and 26th.
