Iconic Lai Yuen Amusement Park Returns This Summer

By Localiiz 24 June 2015
Hong Kongers are invited to take a trip down memory lane this Summer as the iconic Lai Yuen Amusement Park reopens its doors today after closing 18 years ago. The original park, formerly called Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park, opened in 1949 and was once the largest family entertainment venue in Hong Kong until it closed in 1997. But now visitors will be able to experience all their childhood happiness once again as the park returns to the Central Harbourfront spanning an area of more than 20,000 square meters. For a 70-day period, park goers can enjoy the once highly popular games and exciting rides, and experience classic entertainment of previous generations with a little enhancement by today’s cutting-edge technology. Entry to the park is free but tokens are required for playing games or rides and can be bought inside the park for $10 a pop. “We hope to bring back some of those joyous, happy moments of the past, as well as create a positive atmosphere for the local society,” Duncan Chiu, chairman of Lai Yuen Amusement Park Limited, tells us. There will be no admission charge and we expect to attract more than a million visitors during its entire run, including those who have precious past memories of Lai Yuen as well as youngsters who have never had the chance to visit us yet.”
Well we certainly can't wait to get on down there!
When: June 26 – early September Where: Central Harbourfront Event Space, 9 Lung Wo Road, Central Price: Free admission
