Play a Part in the Typhoon Haiyan Relief Effort

By Localiiz 14 November 2013
November 14th 2013 Last week Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Philippines with devastating effect. Thousands have been left without shelter, food, water and medicine, and the death toll continues to rise. While most of us won’t be able to get down and dirty and physically pitch in with the relief efforts, there are still some ways Hong Kongers can lend a helping hand. With winds of 190mph, Typhoon Haiyan (known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines) is one of the strongest storms ever to make landfall. Although it is still too early to report an affirmative death toll, authorities estimate that upwards of 10,000 people may have lost their lives in the disaster. There are reports of “utter devastation” across the main city of Tacloban and the islands of Samar and Leyte, with survivors looting what little is left and even digging up water pipes in desperation. The need for shelter and essential aid is immediate and immense, and with such a large Filipino community here in Hong Kong, the cries for help are too close to ignore. Whether it’s making a donation, shopping smart or simply eating and drinking at the right places this weekend, you too can play your part in the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort.
  Events

Attend the weekend-long fundraising event Philippine Relief, collectively organised by Hong Kong’s Filipino community. Enjoy all-you-can-eat Pino food for HK$50 on Friday November 15th, and shopping, henna, live music and more on throughout the weekend.
