This month it’s all about art as the city gears up to host a line up of events which bring the very best of local and international talent to your doorstep. From paintings and photography to films and graffiti, there is a world of art to explore at your fingertips. Here is our pick of ones not to miss. Enjoy.

Hong Kong Arts Festival

150227 - Hong Kong Welcomes a Month of Art - Hong Kong Arts Festival 180x100In its 43rd year, the Festival presents over 130 exciting performances from top international artists and ensembles in six weeks. All genres of the performing arts are well represented including concerts, ballets, operas, and drama by leading international orchestras, performers, and artists in world-class venues. Flowers, Coffee, and Destiny: A Joint Exhibition of Lithographs by Salvador Dali and Bernard Buffet

150227 - Hong Kong Welcomes a Month of Art - Flowser, Coffee and destiny 180x100An exhibition of modern masters that feature over 20 lithographs by legendary surrealist Salvador Dali and French expressionist Bernard Buffet. The exhibition offers an exciting opportunity to see the complete set of Salvador Dali's The Twelve Signs of the Zodiac, a portfolio of 12 colour lithographs created in 1967. It also features Buffet's collection of lithographs of flowers and still life created during the 70's and 80's. Jacky Tsai East West

In his first solo show in Hong Kong, London-based contemporary Shanghainese artist Jacky Tsai creates Western pop art using traditional Chinese crafts to create his own Chinese contemporary pop art, inspired by his love of Eastern and Western culture. Renowned for designing the Floral Skull prints for Alexander McQueen’s collections, Tsai demonstrates his ability to create a balance between the two cultures in his playful artwork, where superheroes mingle with Bruce Lee in sweeping Chinese landscapes. See the hustle and bustle of 1950’s and 60’s Hong Kong with Ho’s vintage photographs and go off the beaten track with Wolf as he hunts down traces of human activity in modern day Hong Kong. Aries and Imagined Geographies

Mandarin OrientalMandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is hosting two exhibitions this March. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) alumnus and international artist Jason Hackenwerth presents his giant installation Aries, which is made from hundreds of colourful balloons and will be suspended from the hotel lobby ceiling. The hotel will also house Imagined Geographies, an exclusive exhibition featuring nine paintings and photographs by Chris Huen Sin Kan, Gabriel Leung, Ivy Ma, and Lulu Ngie. which present interpretations of landscape. HKwalls Street Art Festival

150227 - Hong Kong Welcomes a Month of Art - HkWalls 180x100The talented team of local and internationals artists from not-for-profit HKwalls return for a second year to transform the streets of Sheung Wan and Stanley Market into a giant gallery of street graffiti. Catch them in action throughout March. Big Era 1960's

Who would have thought a load of old stamps could become a work of art? Born and bred Hong Kong artist and collector, Ng Lung Wai invites you to see his portraits of famous people from the 1960's, all composed of authentic vintage items from the 60's, including more than 20,000 European stickpin badges and thousands of Hong Kong generic stamps. Audrey Hepburn, John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and Mao Zedong make guest appearances. When: March 11 – 17

Asia Contemporary Art Show

150227 - Hong Kong Welcomes a Month of Art - Hong Kong Contemporary Art Show 180x100The Asia Contemporary Art Show returns with an exciting line-up of over 100 exhibiting galleries from 18 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. This is the largest show in Asia in terms of the number of artworks on sale and offers over 3,000 stunning pieces from Asia and beyond. All the works can now be viewed and bought online, so the show goes on even after the doors close. NEW: Art Central

150227 - Hong Kong Welcomes a Month of Art - Art Central 180x100This exciting new art fair is popping up in the waterfront to bring you the next generation of talent alongside some of the most established contemporary galleries from across the globe. Launched by the founders of ART HK, the fair coincides with Art Basel Hong Kong and will showcase works from 77 international galleries housed in a purpose-built tent located on the city's new Central Harbourfront, a 10-minute walk from where Art Basel takes place. Art Basel Hong Kong

Asia’s premier art event returns for its third year to bring a wide range of works from 250 galleries in six exhibition sectors featuring a broad range of artworks including paintings, photography, film and video, and sculptures. Art Basel aims to create an international meeting place for the art world, presenting galleries from Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, and Africa. 'Bleu' and 'Plugs'

1150303 toof contemporary - bleu plugsFrench artist Vanessa Franklin showcases two series of her work (Bleu and Plugs) in her first exhibition in Hong Kong, which explores female identity, sexuality and her relation to the women she portrays. In the series Bleu, the artist twists the stereotypes of fashion and luxury by transforming a cheap and practical object into an elegant outfit. Meanwhile in Plugs, she teasingly juxtaposes woman and power sockets, creating a strong symbolic connection between the object and subject to convey a multi‐layered message.
