Hong Kong Steps Up: Charity Auction Raises HK$2,150,000

By brian_adams 12 September 2014
The herd of elephants featured here raised HK$2,150,000 during a live auction last night to benefit The Asian Elephant Foundation and WWF Hong Kong. The fundraiser was held at the Island Shangri-La Hotel and hosted by a Sotheby's auctioneer. For the past five weeks, the Elephant Parade included 100 life size baby elephant statues publicly displayed to raise awareness of the plight of the Asian elephant. The big winners of the night included 'Hearts in Nature' (HK$250,000), 'Shine Bright' (HK$170,000), and 'A Suspended Moment' (HK$160,000). “Elephants are a keystone species and face a number of dangers, which unfortunately are mainly caused by humans," says Carmen Rademaker, Director of The Asian Elephant Foundation. "Through the grand auction and the Elephant Parade Hong Kong exhibition we hope to use the funds raised to make a real difference in giving the Asian elephant a brighter future. This builds on the awareness raising achieved by the education projects we have been running during the Hong Kong exposition.” Got anything cool you'd like Localiiz to share? Send us your stuff!
