Get Ready to MOVE for Movember

By Sophie Pettit 29 October 2015
It's time to kiss goodbye to your morning shave and get hairy for a great cause as Movember hits us once again. This year the Movember Foundation is on a mission to help fight the rising levels of physical inactivity and lead healthier lifestyles in Hong Kong. With regular exercise proving to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, but up to 50 percent, the Movember team has decided it's time for us all to get moving. So this year, as well as sporting a furry upper lip, they are asking supporters to accept a 30 MOVEs in 30 days fitness challenge to create more movement in our city. Whether this means taking a 30-minute walk to work, doing a daily workout, or going on an epic bike ride, every movement counts in supporting the campaign and raising awareness of men's health issues, of which physical activity plays a major role in combating. "In Hong Kong, about one third of the adult population does less than 10 minutes of vigorous exercise a week and through movement we want to encourage people to lead a more active and happy lifestyle," Robin Bishop, spokesperson for the Movember Foundation in Asia, tells us. workout Last year's Movember campaign raised $3.8 million which was allocated to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund (HKCF) to support prostate cancer research, patient care, peer support, and complementary therapies with a particular focus on survivorship. This year HKCF remains the sole beneficiary of the Movember Foundation’s fundraising this year, with all funds raised in Hong Kong remaining in the city. Now in its fourth year, Movember has received an enthusiastic response from the Mo community in Hong Kong, with registrations and donations increasing every year. Now, with an added incentive to get off the couch and MOVE for a great cause, the Foundation looks forward to an even stronger partnership this year. Get a MOVE on! To take part in Movember, simply follow these three simple steps:
