We cast our net wide this week, covering the Admiralty and Wan Chai district to bring you a range of pet-friendly restaurants and coffee shops! Home to Tamar Park Dog Park, SPCA, and the Happy Valley Race Course, we’ve highlighted just a few of the spots in the vicinity worth book-marking for next time you’re in the area with your fur baby.

APT. Coffee

APT (A Personal Tailor) is an all-day breakfast coffee shop, using Australian-based coffee beans to tailor your coffee to your tastes. Enjoy freshly baked pastries or their sour dough toast with tailored toppings such as house-made beef meatballs or Peruvian prawns whilst you sit on their beautiful front terrace with your pooch.

If you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth but are watching that waist line, try their healthy banana quinoa pancakes, topped with fresh blueberries and slices of banana. They also offer doggie water bowls so you don’t have to worry about keeping your pup hydrated during your pit stop.

EMMER Pizzeria & Café

Get your pizza and panini fix from EMMER Pizzeria & Café with your pets in tow. Located on the fourth floor of Pacific Place at the outdoor terrace, you can enjoy al fresco pizzas and paninis made from organic, heritage grain, along with fresh salads, and perhaps a cheeky vino. If you don't fancy a slice of pizza, you can also opt for their vegetarian option of Impossible Lasagna.

FINI’s

We couldn’t possibly leave out our favourite dog-friendly Italian American restaurant! With cocktails, fresh home-made pastas and pizzas, and a Beers & Wings special every Monday evening for just $98, this is truly the stuff happy hours are made of!

What’s more, kids—actual children, not your pets—get to eat free between 4pm to 7pm every Monday to Friday. Their other location on Elgin Street also makes for a lovely spot to relax with your pup, whilst you carbo-load and watch the world go by. Mamma mia, pasta and pizza baby!

FRITES Belgium on Tap

The first floor patio of Causeway Centre is a great spot for dog-friendly eateries, and is only a short walk away from the SPCA. FRITES Belgium on Tap has a lovely outdoor spot which is covered, where you can enjoy Belgian cuisine and beers.

Their mussels (from $245), which comes in your choice of soup base, served with fries and bread, is of course a must-try. Take your pick from one of six flavours—there‘ll be something to please whether you prefer something more traditional or with a Southeast Asian twist. The Rich Man‘s Burger ($185) is also a hit—just be sure to come with an appetite as their servings are massive!

Giando Italian Restaurant & Bar

Giando isn‘t just another Italian restaurant—this high-end eatery and bar is best enjoyed on special occasions, and no special occasion is complete if you aren‘t able to bring your loved ones (i.e. pets) along! Enjoy the finest Italian seafood, dishes, and wines out on their terrace, and if you have some cash to splash, order one of their dishes with extra black or white truffle shavings to garnish! This is definitely a spot for pampered pooches though, as you can expect to pay around $400 per person for a full course menu.

Joint

This minimalist coffee shop tucked away on Wood Road, specialises in coffee and serves up their cold brews in medicine bottles—best administered twice if ”problems continue to persist”. Enjoy one of their hot coffees with a dash of ginger honey ($38) or, if you prefer something a bit more adventurous, try their cold brew served with tonic or ginger ale ($50). They‘ve also got a cold brew jelly, which is the most expensive item on the menu at $52. Although not a large spot, they welcome accompanying pets—whether canine or feline—into their shop. Just don‘t come on an empty stomach as these guys don‘t serve food.

The Jockey

Looking for a local pub? The Jockey in Happy Valley is the place to be, serving all of the pub classics such as fish and chips ($175), beef and Guinness pie ($165), as well as the good ol‘ full English breakfast ($128), along with some other brunch menu options.

The Jockey is a little taste of home away from home, and offers tables outside for dog owners, without making you feel left out to your own devices! Head on down any night of the week and join in on the fun such as their quiz nights on Tuesdays, or catch live sports action on the big screen whilst enjoying any one of their weekday meal deals.

REACTION Coffee Roasters

REACTION is a favourite amongst local pet owners and coffee lovers, though with only a few spots outdoors for pet owners, you are best off getting there early if you want to nab a table by the window sill. Pick your choice of coffee blend when ordering your coffee, and tuck into their all day breakfast menu, or have a slice of banana or chiffon cake for afters.

RUAM

Enjoy all of your favourite Thai street dishes at this dog-friendly garden bar with family and friends. Ruam (pronounced roo-uhm) means ”gather”, which is appropriate for the intimate setting of this restaurant—whether you are sat indoors or outside on their terrace. Step into this little Thai oasis via their Ship Street entrance, and order a two-course set meal starting from $108. Their bar opens at 4pm, serving up Thai-inspired cocktails, with happy hour lasting until 8pm. Clink clink!

Tai Lung Fung

Be transported back in time to historic Wan Chai at this local bar and restaurant. Although the decor gives off vintage Hong Kong vibes, with the menu even designed to look like an old Chinese newspaper, this restaurant dishes up more of Western cuisine, with offerings such as pizzas and pastas on the menu. Swing by at night to experience Tai Lung Fung in all of it‘s glory when the lights are on and try their signature cocktails such as the Sea Breeze.
