Earth Hour Rocks at The Harbour School

By Contributed content 20 March 2015
As we count down to Earth Hour at 8.30pm on March 28, you might be getting ready to join the rest of the world in turning off your electronics and helping to save energy in honour of raising awareness about climate change. But before you switch off the lights, check out this amazing new music video composed and produced by 12 talented students at The Harbour School who teamed up with New York musicians Paulie Z and Tony Cortes to mark the occasion. Students: Akasha, Atun, Audadi, Baari, Eitan, Euan, Fred, Liam, Magnus, Mimi, Rian and Thomas. Earth Hour

Did you know we are running on limited resources and time on this planet? We have a beautiful Earth now but depending on our actions today, we are deciding for our kids and our grandkids if there is a future on this Earth, our planet. Sure, some people are sick of hearing this but it’s like taking medicine right? We don’t like it, but we’ve got to take it and more importantly, do something about it. This is why we chose to compose a song about Earth Hour (with Paulie and Tony) because we want to spread the message, share the awareness and support the movement. 150320 - Earth Hour Rocks at The Harbour School - IMG_0002 Composing Earth Hour with Paulie Z and Tony Cortes was an epic experience. The whole journey from start to finish was one big, fun carnival ride. Writing the lyrics was a lot like poetry-writing, just more fun because we got to think of the music that goes with it. Making the music video was trying out lots of different ideas and weaving it all into a kind of story that goes with the song. 150320 - Earth Hour Rocks at The Harbour School - IMG_0006 The Harbour School’s Green Tips:
  1. The obvious one: turn off lights and household appliances when you do not need them. For example, use natural light as much as possible and don’t use a night light at night.
  2. Reduce, reuse and recycle! At school, we recycle plastic bottles, plastic bags, paper and boxes for science experiments and art.
  3. Reduce the use of air conditioning in summer, open the windows.
  4. Bicycle, walk or use the public transport instead of drive.
  5. Plant a tree!
