Holiday Happenings and Festive Fun

By Sophie Pettit 1 December 2014
Hallelujah! The festive fun times are here and so are the perfect excuses to eat, drink, and be merry. To help you make the most of your time this month, we've picked some of our favourite offerings to round off your year in style.

Get Feasting

As we leap into the party season, there's no better time to throw a get-together. No serious celebration is complete without a delicious meal and drinks to share with family and friends. Whether you like to entertain your guests in the comfort of your own home, or hire a venue to host your special night, there are plenty of options to help you plan your festive celebrations this Christmas. Throw the house party of the year with a little help from Shamrock Catering Group. Choose from four delicious Christmas Selections menus designed to take care of all your catering needs, leaving you free to mingle and entertain your guests. Serving a minimum of 20 guests (at HK$275 per person) or 30 guests (at HK$258 to HK$388 per head), each menu allows you to take your loved ones on a culinary journey from starter to dessert. Treat guests to oven roast turkey with bread crumb stuffing and gravy, and a cheeky Christmas Chocolate Roll, while rounding off their experience with a glass of Christmas Fruit Punch. Cheers! Want to spoil your guests with a Christmas feast with all the trimmings? Pre-order your turkey from The Meatery By Meatmarket HK and prep your bellies for the feasting month ahead. However many guests you invite to your table, there are a range of sizes serving from four to 15 people. Delivery for Christmas is available from December 1st so place your order now! Why not take your party to the comfort of someone else's home? Celebrity and Michelin star chef Harlan Goldstein is adding a festive flair to his much-loved Lan Kwai Fong eatery, aptly named COMFORT. He will introduce several hearty dishes inspired by the festive season to be enjoyed exclusively only on December 24th and 25th, along with a ‘Food for Friends’ a-la-carte menu. Diners can enjoy a holiday favourite dubbed ‘My Slow-Cooked Christmas Turkey’, with an Italian twist as he substitutes the traditional turkey ingredients with Italian influence to create a mouth-watering, Italian sausage stuffing. Keeping with the Italian theme is Jamie Oliver, who is celebrating his first Christmas in Hong Kong by whipping up a selection of festive delights at his recently opened eatery Jamie’s Italian in Causeway Bay. You and your guests can enjoy Free-range Italian roast turkey with a selection of Christmas-themed cocktails and traditional desserts, available from a special set menu from December 1st to 30th. Don't miss out on a feast to remember!

Party the French Way

The French sure know how to party and they're here to prove it! In Celebration of its 350th Anniversary, the world’s best-selling French beer Kronenbourg 1664 is transforming the streets of Soho into a fun-filled Parisian Quarter, with French jazz music, activities, and a host of French-style fun on December 4th. Pop along and enjoy a slice of the French way of life with a cold beer in hand. Don't miss out on the chance to engrave your name on a limited edition anniversary bottle to mark the special occasion. Take your party up a notch and hire your own private kitchen for a wining and dining experience that oozes sophistication. French inspired private fine dining kitchen The Coterie, offers a Christmas and New Year menu that overflows with decadence, featuring seasonal delights such as a Christmas mince pie with homemade brandy butter. Available from December 24th until January 1st, the venue offers two dining rooms seating up to 10 or 14 guests, who will be waited on hand and foot like French royalty. Speaking of aristocracy, for those who enjoy the finer things in life, head down to the newly-opened Topiary on Hollywood Road and indulge in a selection of exquisite signature cocktails, named after the lingo of a petit-bourgeois financier. Relax in the beautiful surroundings of the 19th Century inspired lounge, or enjoy the green open space of the beautiful sculpted French garden terrace. Book this gem for your Christmas party and charm your guests with a delectable taste of France. Sample French festivities at The French International School's traditional Christmas Market on December 6th, from 10am to 5pm at the Jardine´s Lookout campus on 34 Price Road. Take your pick of gifts, goodies, and hampers among the 50 stalls while the children enjoy a variety of activities in the Wonderland, such as games, arts and crafts, a bouncy castle, and storytelling corner. Wonderland tickets cost HK$100 each and are available on the day. Don’t forget to visit Santa´s grotto and have your picture taken with the man himself. Treat yourself to a French manicure, among other pamperings, at Spa BPZ. Got a big party to go to and want to look your best? Then book a special holiday party make-up and hairstyling session with the world-famous make-up artist, Nigar Q. By the time she's finished with you, you'll look like a million dollars.

Have a Play Day

Escape the hoards of Christmas shoppers and enter a virtual world of thrills and high speed action at Hong Kong’s premier virtual racing centre, Sideways Driving Club. For those of you who want more than what your Playstation or Xbox can offer, the club is running a holiday promotion, offering two people 90 minutes of ride time on its 15 networked simulators for HK$1,500. They're even throwing in beer and pizza, but don't drink and drive! Race against either the clock or friends as you experience what it feels like to be in a real race car on the circuit. School's out for Christmas and what better way to fill all that extra playtime than by treating the kids to a fun day camp. Bricks 4 Kidz is offering a unique Christmas Break Camp designed to spark the imagination of your little ones through LEGO model building, with exciting themes such as Junior Robotics, A Pirate's Quest, and Superhero. Held in the mornings and afternoons in Causeway Bay (from December 22nd to January 2nd), and Discovery Bay, (from December 15th to 19th), each session costs HK$480, with a 10% early bird discount if you enroll before November 30th. So head on down and get building! Why wait until the New Year to get in shape? Get Creative

Fancy breaking away from tradition and doing something different to celebrate the festive season? Why not spice things up by inviting the African Drumming and Dance Connection to your private or corporate party. You and your guests can learn about African rhythms and make beautiful music while dancing with these lively performers. How's that for thinking outside the festive box? Continue the dance with the crew from Island Dance who will perform at The American Club Christmas Showcase on December 5th. Featuring disco freestyle, jazz funk, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, tap, and Zumba, the show promises to be full of music and action. Break the mundane office party mould and throw a do-with-a-difference with a little help from Chunky Onion Corporate Entertainment, which offers the best comedy shows and dinner theatre in Hong Kong. Let professional actors, such as dancers, costumed greeters, aerial artists, and magicians bring comedy and magic to your table. Or cast the net a little further afield and let Chunky Onion Event Management bring the party to life with their interactive theatrical performances at themed gala dinners or VIP cocktail receptions. Give your guests an unforgettable night of laughter. Ready for your close up? Let HDP Photography capture you and your family in all your festive glory this season at your home or in their photography studio in Chai Wan. What better gift to give your loved one that a beautiful portrait of the whole family together? However you decide to celebrate this month, just remember, it's your time to shine, so get on out there and end the year in style!
