Creatively Cool Cocktails for Arts Month

By Sophie Pettit 14 March 2016

It isn't only art galleries and theatres that have been bitten by the creative bug this month - Hong Kong's talented cocktail connoisseurs have been hard at work whipping up delicious creations in honour of the most arty month in our city's social calendar. With these tantalising masterpieces up for grabs, there's no better excuse to hit the bar and raise a glass or two. Cheers to art!

M Bar

[masterslider id="208"]

We can't think of anywhere we would rather sip on an Art Basel cocktail than in the Mandarin Oriental's swanky high rise M bar. For the fourth year running, the prestigious Mandarin Oriental has been selected as the official hotel partner of Art Basel, so it comes as no surprise to learn they have pulled out all the stops with their artistic cocktail creations. Indulge in the espresso, vanilla, and chocolate flavours of their Film cocktail, and lap up the view of Hong Kong's glittering skyline. If you fancy something a little more floral, then you might enjoy the elderflower liqeur, blueberries, lavender bitters, and organic gin fusion in the Discoveries cocktail. When: March 14 - 27, (Monday - Friday, 11am - 12.45am; Saturday, 5pm - 12.45am; Sunday - 5pm - 11.45pm) Where: M Bar, 25/F, Mandarin Oriental, 5 Connaught Road Central How much: $148 Click here for more information

The Woods

[masterslider id="207"]

If you go down to The Woods today, you're sure of a big surprise. Tucked away on Hollywood Road, this dimly lit hang out is giving its cocktail menu an artistic makeover, inspired by the most influential contemporary artists of our time. The Princess of Polka Dots, 86-year-old Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, has sent The Woods dotty with her hallucinatory works. The liquid version, Dots Obsession Russian, blends chocolate absinthe and sake, topped with a white chocolate dome, and Kusama's signature polka dots. Keep your eye out for super-sized balloon olives floating around in Jeff Koones inspired Balloon Olive martinis, abstract ink swirling through gummy bear-flavoured DRNK shooters in honour of Christopher Wool, and Ai Wei Wei style crab and sunflower bar snacks. Deliciously surreal! When: March 21 - 28, (6pm -  2am, closed on Sunday) Where: The Woods, L/G, 17 Hollywood Road, Central How much: $65 - $155, (15% discount for Art Basel and Art Central VIP ticket holders) Visit their website for more information
