Big Break Calling: Bring Your Music to the Masses at the Cotai Jazz & Blues Festival

July 30th 2014 Got the blues but no-one’s listening? Time to crank up the volume and get the world to prick up its ears. The Cotai Jazz & Blues Festival - returning to The Venetian Macau in October for its third triumphant year - is appealing for individual vocalists, instrumentalists and bands of six or less to compete in their wildly popular battle of the blues. Each year, the Jazz & Blues competition sees 12 finalists from all over the world flown to Macau (transportation, accommodation and meals thrown in) to perform in front of audiences of thousands for a chance to claim a share of the HK$550,000 cash prize. Priceless, however, is the opportunity for exposure, with last year’s victors, Bleu Rascals, invited back to The Venetian to support Filipino superstar rockers The Dawn at the Featherweight Fury after-party this May. The First Place winners will claim HK$250,000, Second Place HK$150,000 and Third Place HK$100,000. And for the first time ever, there’ll also be a Special Recognition Award, dishing out HK$50,000 to the competitors outside the top three that generated the best crowd reaction – so work on that stage presence! As an additional treat, this year’s New Orleans Mardi Gras-styled extravaganza will party on for an extra day, with street performers, music, gourmet food and gondolas galore causing a buzz in The Venetian’s atmospheric outdoor Lagoon area between October 9th and 12th.
