REVIEW: (Valentine's Offer) Sense of Touch Signature Fresh Collagen Infusion Facial

By Sophie Pettit 11 February 2016
I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for, particularly when it comes to beauty treatments in Hong Kong. I'm happy to spend a few hundred dollars on a no-frills massage or facial when I need a quick fix to soothe my aches or puffy eyes, but I can't deny that spending more and getting properly pampered in a top spa is totally worth it. So when award-winning spa and my go-to pamper spot, Sense of Touch, announced it was going to offer all Localiiz readers 10% off its new Signature Fresh Collagen Infusion Facial ($1,062, original price $1,180) for Valentine's Day, I decided to trial it. The treatment is said to help "minimalise fine lines, double moisturisation, and increase elasticity by up to 60%", by infusing fresh pure collagen directly into your skin. The fact that it's also non-invasive, does not involve lasers (read more here), and only uses Sense of Touch Laboratories products, had me sold.

The Setting

spa room With six locations dotted around Hong Kong, you are never far away from a Sense of Touch spa. For convenience, I popped into the Lan Kwai Fong branch, which occupies five floors of a building on D’Aguilar Street. As you walk into the spa, you are met with warm smiles and a cup of herbal tea, before you are led to one of the treatment rooms. Here, you soon forget you are in the heart of Hong Kong's biggest party zone. This is largely due to the scented candles, meditative music and soft, golden lighting that magically transcend you away from the city madness. Trying not to fall asleep as soon as your head touches the treatment table is quite a challenge, especially after a manic Monday at work.

The Treatment

If there is one word I would use to describe this facial, it would be - thorough. I lost track of the number of creams, gels, and masks that were applied to my face during the 80-minute treatment, but I do recall that each one smelt more lovely than the last, and played its own part in cleansing, soothing, and moisturising my skin. [caption id="attachment_46869" align="alignleft" width="227"]fresh collagen infusion essence_ls(1) The secret ingredient[/caption] The facial begins with a face cleanse using gel infused with chamomile flower extract, followed by an exfoliation treatment infused with fruit enzyme, and then the application of the secret ingredient - the Fresh Collagen Infusing Essence - which is left on the face for a few minutes to work its magic. At this point, you get a nice surprise in the form of a hand mask (two gloves lined with moisturiser), before you are given a face mask infused with hyaluronic acid and botanical extract. The treatment ends with a high-powered hydrating Nano Moist serum, and finally a balancing moisturiser which sinks into the deeper layers. The combination of soothing sensations, gorgeous aromas, and relaxing music make this the ultimate pamper experience from start to finish. The only part I didn't enjoy was the slightly painful (but necessary) 'extraction', whereby the beautician spent a few minutes scraping away at my pores to remove the dirt. This stung in the more sensitive places such as my nose and above my lip, but all was forgiven when I was treated to a heavenly neck and shoulder massage towards the end of the session, which nearly sent me to sleep. After the treatment, my face felt relaxed, silky soft, and glowing, and the lovely scents from the gels and creams lingered long into the next morning.

The Verdict

If you want to spoil yourself senseless, and don't mind splashing out a bit more to get a top quality facial, then this is the spot for you. The quality of the products and treatment, combined with the friendliness of the staff and the gorgeous surroundings in this spa are second to none - and you will walk away feeling totally relaxed. While $1,062 is not cheap, even at a promotional price, you really do get what you pay for, and my experience here cannot be compared to the no-frills spas I have visited in the past. So, if you want to treat that special someone this Valentine's Day, or if you are in need of some serious pampering, this is a winner.
