A Two-Day Glimpse Into the Hong Kong Experience

We’ve featured many fantastic videos as of late done by the many tourists passing through the fragrant harbour. Seemingly enamored by the irresistible beauty of Hong Kong, our visitors just can’t seem to stop making video homages to our city’s lights, streets, people, and food! The same can be said for this week’s video of the week. Created by Matt Grant, owner and director of UK’s Cabin Fever Production, ‘2 Days in Hong Kong,’ is a gorgeous little snapshot video that captures the natural beauty of our city's day to day. We catch a word with Grant about his vision behind the lens.

;Grant shot ‘2 Days in Hong Kong’ at the end of March 2014 on a stopover trip to the Gold Coast in Australia. Stopping to shoot a couple quick interviews for his London clients, Grant managed to find some spare time to capture some fantastic shots of the city’s sights, from its harbour to our brave bamboo climbing construction workers, and decided to edit it together. Shot on a Canon 5D MKIII, Grant’s shoot was fairly easy. He spent two days wandering the city with his easy to transport DSLR, and two days editing. Lucky for grant, he seemed to have to caught Hong Kong at its prime weather, his shots being complimented by lovely blue skies and clear night views.Unlike some tourists that visit Hong Kong with no prior knowledge of what to expect or where to do, Grant has had the privilege of having lived in Hong Kong. The talented photographer lived here for a year in 2008, and used the city's landscape to improve his photography skills. Despite it being a fairly short amount of time, Grant found himself smitten with it. “I fell in love with the city and it is still my favourite city in the world. I love the energy and contrasts between old and new and rich and poor. I try to return whenever I can.” Grant has found that as a photographer, he just can't get enough of Hong Kong, discovering new things upon every visit to the city. “There is so much to shoot in Hong Kong I think you could spend a life-time shooting and still not capture everything you want!”Thus, Grant plans to return to Hong Kong sometime soon to add more to his video, hopefully sometime within the next year. “The next stage of the project is to grab some of the locations I didn't get to like Lantau, Causeway Bay and some more of Kowloon side. After that I want to dig a bit deeper into some people footage capturing locals in their day-to-day lives. The idea is to show both sides of HK, the fairy tale money side and the reality of real life for the majority of HK’s residents. Although not a new story it has always fascinated me the difference between the haves and don’t have in Hong Kong.”Localiiz definitely hopes that Grant can make it back to Hong Kong soon and continue working on his video – we can only see great promise form his work!Check out more of Grant’s work on his website.
