A Solution to Pollution – Couture Facemasks for the Masses Coming to Hong Kong

By Stasia Fong 7 July 2014
If you care at all about what you wear, there’s no doubt that when it comes to facemasks, the heinous white and light blue plastic offerings that scream nothing but “SARS!” just aren’t cutting it. With pollution levels getting worse in Hong Kong by the day, British fashion designer Nina Griffee of FaceSlap is bringing the trendy fashionistas of the Fragrant Harbour her stylish solution to pollution - couture facemasks. Inspired by her time living in Beijing, Nina’s creations communicate an audacious approach to fashion that serves a dual purpose – looking good and protecting your health. “At some point most of the world has had problems with pollution – but now we have the knowledge, and the world is at a daring point with attitudes to fashion that will allow us to do something about it,” Nina tells Localiiz. Collaborating with premier filtering facemask distributor, Vogmask, Nina has filled a void in the market by creating edgy but functional masks – that, although seem a bit off the wall right now, may well become a wardrobe essential in the future. While her current designs lend themselves best to cooler climates, Nina tells Localiiz that she intends to make a summer-friendly line soon. And with her planned expansion into Macau and Hong Kong, she’ll definitely need to do that! She also plans to release a series of slightly less loud masks for fashion conservatives, and a children’s collection. For a chance to see her creations in the flesh, head to HKCEC on July 8th, when FaceSlap and Vogmask will be breathing easy on the catwalk as part of Hong Kong Fashion Week. Just don’t embarrass yourself by rocking up in last season’s Watsons' number. What: FaceSlap and Vogmask Catwalk Where: Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center When: July 8th 2014 from 10:30-11:30am RSVP: Get a complimentary ticket to the show by emailing [email protected] or calling +852-6761-3690
