Welcome to the 2015 Battle of the Blockbusters. In the red, white and blue corner, we have Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the dusty brown corner, we have Mad Max: Fury Road. The Avengers has been the box office champ for the past few weeks but Mad Max is showing great promise. Who will win this battle of the titans? Our in-house movie expert, Howard Elias, is here to give us the lowdown on the big fight as well as the scoop on a few other films that are facing off against each other in the undercard match.
A Little Chaos
A user comment on IMDB.com says it all: “It was the perfect film to take my elderly mother to, given that we both enjoy gardening holidays in France.” Yes, Alan Rickman does an okay job both behind and in front of the camera; and Stanley Tucci is brilliant as Philippe, Duc d’Orleans but one can’t help wonder if it could have been a better film had the chemistry between Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts been stronger.
Showing at the AMC, BC and Grand cinemas.
Mad Max: Fury Road
The movie most of us have been eagerly anticipating is finally here and you’re probably wondering if Tom Hardy was able to fill Mel Gibson’s shoes. The answer is: Hell, ya! We don’t need another (super)hero. Mad Max is the champ! Best film of the year so far.
Showing everywhere in 2D & 3D.
Women In Black 2: Angel of Death
It’s 1941 during the London Blitz. Two teachers evacuate a group of schoolchildren to an abandoned house on the coast where they should be safe from harm’s way. But evil lurks in the floorboards and dusty rooms, and the boarders soon realise they’ve come to reside in the house inhabited by the Woman in Black. Sounds scary, right? It’s not. It’s a bore. Give it a miss and go see Mad Max instead.
