Marks, Set, Go Crazy – For Hong King’s 30th Charity Pedal Kart Grand Prix

To mark 30 years in existence and more than HK$ 30 million raised for Hong Kong charities to date, the Annual Charity Pedal Kart Grand Prix is yet again set to bring the world’s wackiest races to Victoria Park on May 4th & 5th.

Thousands of spectators watch the thrills and spills of the race and enjoy the carnival atmosphere every year, and 2013 is set to be better than ever. A bouncy castle, face painting tents and live entertainment by Rumple and Friends and the Hong Kong Toy Club will provide enjoyment for the little ones, while food and beverage provided by Pizza Express, The Flying Brats and Starbucks will keep everybody’s energy levels high during the track action, music performances and radio segments from RTHK Radio 3’s DJ Kevin Lewis.

Leading businesses including Cathay Pacific, Jetta Company and the MTR Corporation, as well as top academic organisations such as King George V School and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will make up the 30 teams participating in this year’s 24-hour human-powered pedal kart charity competition. While some will be looking to showcase their engineering prowess in the fight to take the crown for the highest number of laps from current record holders Cathay Pacific, others will be donning their creative hats in an attempt to come up with inspired designs in the fun category.

“We’re very proud to be part of this event and to be able to help less fortunate children in Hong Kong,” said a member of the Asia Miles team. “It’s pretty hard work but it’s a great cause, so we’re really happy to take part!” added a competitor from the Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited team.

Most importantly, the race, organised by volunteers from the Round Table Hong Kong, and supported by the Ladies’ Circle Hong Kong, raises money for charity. Some of the organisations recently supported by Hong Kong 24hr Charity Pedal Kart Grand Prix include Street Kids Rescue, Feeding Hong Kong, Swim Vietnam, Elephant Rescue and Survival Foundation, REMAR, Umbrella Foundation and Soul Talk, to name just a few.

“The big ‘heartedness’ of Hong Kong businesses and individuals never fails to surprise and delight us,”said Gareth Wilde, Chairman of the Hong Kong Pedal Kart Committee and National President of the Hong Kong Round Table. “Together, both help us continue to support charities, both local and overseas, in the purchase of vital equipment that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and which adds immeasurably to the quality of life for the less fortunate in our community,” he added. For further information on the event, visit the HK Roundtable Website or the Facebook Page.
