The long-awaited Pink Season, Asia’s Premier LGBT+ Festival, is back for another year and we couldn’t be more excited! From September 28 to November 3, the festival will be painting the town pink with a jam-packed schedule of glamours parties and events. So get your calendars out and pencil in those dates!

Launch Party

Kick off the season with a bang and head down to LGBT+ hotspot, Petticoat Lane, on September 28. Expect amazing giveaways, plenty of drinks promotions, incredible live performances, dance-inducing music, and a whole lot of glitz and glam. The event is free but be sure to RSVP first, and don’t forget to make a donation.

Drag Queen Workshops

If you’ve ever watched an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, then you probably know how much work it takes to transform into a fabulous drag queen – well, now your turn. Explore your untapped talent for drag and learn everything you need to know about makeup, dance, and persona creation. There’s even a grand prize up for grabs for the ultimate queen!

Spark 4 Impact

Right, let’s get serious for a moment. Spark 4 Impact is a workshop which aims to find solutions to the many problems that are faced by the LGBT+ community every day. Starting off with a guided tour, the session is then followed by an open forum where Impact X, a social enterprise and co-organiser of the event, will address and tackle any issues or concerns raised by participants. There are limited spaces for this workshop so hurry and sign up while you can.

Adrift in Macao

Nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Best Music, Adrift in Macao is a hilarious musical parody of a classic film noir movie. Starring typical film noir characters such as Laureena, the curvaceous blonde, who luckily bumps into Rick Shaw, the cynical surf-and-turf casino owner, and Mitch, the American who has just been framed for murder by a mysterious villain, this musical parody is filled with songs, jokes, puns, and plenty of shenanigans. Despite being in an environment where LGBT+ issues are not discussed but rather pushed under the rug, there is still a very active social movement fighting for LGBT+ rights in the mainland. At this forum, three champions of LGBT+ rights from Xiamen, Wuhan, and Hong Kong come together to discuss and share their experiences of the obstacles they’ve had to overcome, and how they led the community to fight against all odds.

How To Be An Ally

PLUGboat at Floatilla 2018

The classic LGBT+ junk boat celebration is back with the biggest floating party of the year. A vital part of Pink Season is supporting community health initiatives in Hong Kong. This Health Day on October 18, AIDS Concern is hosting this important event to discuss topics such as domestic violence, the stigma of HIV testing, depression, and drug addiction. In case you didn’t know, Hong Kong will be the first Asian city to host the Gay Games in 2022 (that’s just four years away!). In anticipation, Pink Season’s Sports Day is set to be filled with exciting sports including tag archery, underwater hockey, aerial yoga, as well as classics such as tennis and volleyball. Marriage Legislation

After the celebration of the QT case taking victory back in July, civil servant, Angus Leung, is taking his case to the Court of Final Appeal to fight for his right to legally declare his husband, Scott Adams, his spouse in Hong Kong. But what does this all mean for the future? This November 1, lawyers involved in both cases, along with other experts, cut through the jargon and outline the next steps for the LGBT+ community to bring marriage equality to Hong Kong.
