New On The Menu: Fresh Menus and Outlets to Try This Month

Along with fabulous new restaurant and bar openings this month, we are treated to new outlets and menus offering us everything from tangy seafood to hearty Italian dishes, and some good old-fashioned Hong Kong favourites. Once again, we are spoilt for choice when dining out in the 852 – and we’re loving it!



New Outlets …

Fishsteria Waterside Opens in Kennedy Town

The popular Wan Chai Fishsteria restaurant has extended its offering, opening a brand new waterfront outlet in buzzing Kennedy Town which serves up casual seafood in an unpretentious setting. Located on the ground floor of New Fortune House, Fishsteria Waterside boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, bespoke light fittings crafted from the skeleton of a classic Italian row boat, and an al fresco feel which makes it perfect for a lively brunch or laid-back dinner with friends or family. Familiar dishes can still be found, such as the famous Fishsteria Lobster Roll ($168) and Tuna Poke Foccaccia ($138) with lean tuna and creamy burrata, while new creations include the Scallops and Apple Ceviche with lime ($198) and the Sea Urchin Chitarra ($288), with fresh square egg spaghetti and Mediterranean sea urchin tossed with Italian parsley and chili.

Larger dishes include the Dover Sole and the Lobster Giant Macaroni ($548), prepared with brandy, white wine, and ripe Italian cherry tomatoes. There’s also an impressive selection of wines and craft beers on offer, as well as a foosball table to encourage some friendly competition among friends. Perfect for those sunny days in Hong Kong which call for some waterfront chilling.

Little Bao Opens in Causeway Bay

May Chow is spreading the bao love with the launch of her brand new Little Bao outlet in Causeway Bay, offering more food items and a much bigger space to kick back in. Located in Fashion Walk, just across from Victoria Park, the bright and airy venue offers a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy some tasty new sharing dishes, along with the original menu from the first Soho branch, such as the famous Pork Belly Bao ($78) and plant-based Impossible Bao ($98). New must-order treats include Shrimp Tacos ($128) with guacamole and pineapple salsa, the Fried Chicken ($178) with a spicy mala kick, and the Seaweed Poppers ($68) which are seaweed covered cuttlefish balls dipped in a black garlic sauce (pictured above). Make sure to try the Ice Cream Bao ($38) too, which comes in either green tea or salted caramel flavour.

The new outlet is a stark contrast to the small, cramped original space on Staunton Street which seats only 20 people at a time. Aside from offering a broader menu, the venue caters to more than four times the amount of diners, making this the ideal spot to enjoy some casual dining in the heart of the bustling shopping district. Chow also welcomes canine companions with open arms, providing bowls of water, special doggie menu items and (rumour has it) fashion pieces to come. Watch this space …

New Menus …

New Chef and Menu at Jamie’s Italian 

The popular Italian eatery has enjoyed a complete overhaul of its menu, serving up delectable rustic and hearty dishes created by talented new female development chef and restaurant manager, Atisha Kumar. Her strong knowledge of Italian cuisine translates beautifully to the table, with dishes executed to perfection and arriving busting with freshness and flavour. Must-order items include the Mussels in ‘Nduja Cream Sauce ($138), which offers a subtle chilli kick and some rustic focaccia to mop up the sauce with. Make sure to try the gorgeously rich Spicy Italian Meatballs ($128) with chilli-spiked free-range pork, and the 7-Layered Lasagne ($168) which is packed with 12-hour slow-cooked beef short-rib and Chianti ragù, Béchamel, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

Mouth drooling yet? Well, it should be, because quite honestly the food here is a million times better than it was before, bringing more flavour, more depth, and more personality to the table. Well done Atisha! For those who prefer a lighter (and perhaps more healthy) bite, there are things like the zesty Super Food Salad ($188) with roasted cauliflower, puy lentils, rocket, almond and artichoke pesto, and the Sustainable Norwegian Salmon ($288) which is garnished with blackened corn, quinoa, and asparagus with lemon vinaigrette. The perfect casual setting for wining and dining with family or friends, Jamie’s has really nailed it this time. Just make sure you leave room for the devilishly good dessert plank which comes stocked with a selection of Tiramisu, baked cheesecake, Eton Mess, and chocolate brownie.

New Weekend Brunch at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse

The steakhouse which boasts some of the best cuts in town has launched a new weekend brunch menu, offering carnivores the feast of their dreams, and little ones aged six and below the chance to eat for free. The new menu costs $328 per person and features a wide variety of starters, entreés, sides, and desserts, some of which come at an additional cost. For starters, the Lobster Bisque is beautifully rich and creamy, without being overpowering, while the Fresh Oysters (+$88) pair beautifully with a glass of chilled Prosecco or white wine. The real stars, however, are the deliciously juicy signature New York Sirloin (+$118) which comes sizzling at your table, and the delectable Wolfgang’s Eggs Benedict (+$38) which offers a unique twist in that it’s served with either crab cakes or filet mignon – both are incredible. Desserts include a light and creamy Creme Brûlée or a devilishly rich Chocolate Brownie, which definitely needs to be shared.

There are also two free-flow options to choose from – the Standard package ($288), which includes beer, wines, Prosecco, Mimosa and Bloody Mary cocktails, and the Premium ($588) which upgrades you to Moët & Chandon and Gin & Tonics. If you prefer to order a la carte, options include the Grilled Shrimp and Avocado Salad ($158), Classic Burger ($298) and Pasta of the Day ($198), to name a few. One of the great things about this brunch is it’s also child-friendly, offering kids a choice of four main dishes for free, including Mini Burger, Fish Fingers with Steak Frites, Meatball Pasta, and Macaroni Carbonara. Given the high quality of the food and attentive service, this is a pretty reasonable option if you’re craving some steak at the weekend, or have little mouths to feed.
