Guilt Free Treats at Bear’s Lab
We’ll start with something healthy. Responding to Hong Kong’s growing consumer demand for healthy snacking, newly-opened heath hub, Bear’s Lab, offers a variety of freshly-made smoothie bowls, smoothies, and vegan lattés using the zestiest natural ingredients available. Much like in a chemist lab, each “formula” has been developed personally by passionate founder, Leo Tam, who spent over a year painstakingly perfecting every single recipe on the menu. Here you will find three vitamin-packed smoothie bowls, of which the Detox Bowl ($88) – filled to the brim with acai, avocado, banana, spinach, agave syrup, and sprinkled with chia seeds – is to die for. There are four smoothies to choose from too, and we’re a big fan of the Acai Classic ($56), which blends coconut water, pear, blueberry, banana, and acai. Vegans can select one of five special lattés which include superfoods like tumeric, spirulina, beetroot, and charcoal, all for under $45. With such vibrant, nutritional, and tasty treats on offer, you can feast to your stomach’s content with no guilt whatsoever. And while you’re there, check out the super “grammable” wall of pink and white roses and giant wooden teddy bear that greets you near the entrance.

Impossible Launches at Cali Mex
From guilt free to meat free, award-winning plant-based meat, Impossible, has landed at all sixteen Cali-Mex locations across Hong Kong. Fans of the California-style Mexican restaurant can now enjoy a selection of six signature dishes which are totally meat free, but not lacking in flavour. These include the Impossible Tacos ($108), Impossible Quesadilla ($158) served with greens, sour cream, and guacamole, hefty Impossible Burrito ($108), Impossible Nachos ($158) topped with pico de gallo, melted cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, and guacamole, Impossible Enchiladas ($148), and Impossible Mexican Lasagna ($158) topped with cheese. All menu items can be made vegan, upon request, with dairy-free sour cream and vegan cheese. We tried several of these dishes and are big fans of the enchiladas – perfect for hungry vegetarians looking for a filling snack.

New Menu at Fang Fang
One year after opening, stylish contemporary Asian restaurant Fang Fang has totally revamped its menu after welcoming new Executive Chef, Chef Wong Tai Po, who spent a decade helming the kitchens of some of London’s leading restaurants. Inspired by popular dishes from around Southeast Asia, and adding a modern, playful twist, the menu includes the signature Miso Soup Cappuccino with an unconventional take on miso using soy milk and coriander ($55), Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche ($140) served with watermelon pickle and foam (pictured above), and Apple Smoked Ribs slow-cooked with daikon puree and Asian pesto ($225). In addition, Chef Wong has refined Fang Fang’s legendary yum cha offering with a new selection of colourful dim sum dishes such as steamed salted pickle, spinach and shrimp, and adorable carrot-shaped custard dim sum. Plus, we cannot fail to mention the delectable Fang Fang Signature Roasted 42-Day Duck ($595 for whole), which is served with an array of imaginative sauces and seasonings. One of the best menus we have sampled in a very long time, Fang Fang offers everything you could possibly want in a restaurant – incredibly flavoursome dishes, killer cocktails, and a sleek, stylish interior located in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong.

New Weekend Brunch at Picada
Sharing is caring – especially at Picada. The vibrant restaurant has introduced a new five-course weekend brunch to celebrate the sharing nature of Latin America – while keeping vegan and gluten-free diners happy too. For $298 per person, guests can tuck into gluten-free dishes including Colombian Empanada, Peruvian Ceviche with seabass from France, Latin Chicken Chicharron with guacamole and tartare dipping sauces, and a vegan Organic Quinoa Salad with Peruvian quinoa, roasted cherry tomatoes, basil chimichurri, and avocado puree. For mains, there is a choice of Picada’s signature dish, the Chicken a la Brasa, a beautifully baked chicken rotisserie, served with truffle fries and salad, or Grilled Fish of the Day, served with yoghurt and dill sauce. Vegetarians can opt for the Green Veggie Paella, while meat eaters can add on $28 for the Argentine Ribeye a Caballo, served with truffle fries and topped with a fried egg. A 3-hour free-flow package is also available to wash this all down for a reasonable $198 per person, including house mixers, juices, wine, Carlsberg, Kronenbourg draft, and selected cocktails. If room allows, you can ask the staff for the homemade dessert of the day, and if you’re coming with kids, there’s plenty of entertainment including a colouring station and magician shows, alongside a $98 menu with dishes like Mac & Cheese, Mini Burgers, and classic English Fish and Chips. New Ashley Sutton Bar, Dragonfly
The Aussie mastermind behind Ophelia, The Iron Fairies, and Dear Lilly has unveiled a new bohemian-style cocktail lounge in the heart of Tai Kwun. As you’d expect, the interior of Ashley Sutton’s aptly named Dragonfly is just as magical as his previous ventures, transporting guests back to the late 19th century with a style and feel that reflects the Art Nouveau era. Over 500 cast iron dragonflies adorn the bar area and walls, while turquoise glass lamps featuring yellow dragonflies embellish the ceiling of the lounge, giving it a soft emerald glow. The cocktails are just as elaborate, taking inspiration from around the globe and arriving in re-purposed items like the Monet’s Teapot (128) served in a Tetsubin cast-iron Japanese teapot – definitely one for the gram! The bar also serves a curated selection of old and new world wines as well as a diverse range of gins, whiskies, and rum to keep guests happy. With the outdoor area of the bar spreading into one of Tai Kwun’s stone-paved passageways, guests can also immerse themselves in the history of their surroundings while enjoying live music. Hmm, we think a history trip is in order!

New Look and Cocktails at Sugar
Eight years after its opening, popular rooftop bar Sugar (Bar.Deck.Lounge) has enjoyed a stylish makeover, boasting a cosy new interior and killer cocktails to enjoy on the enormous outdoor terrace overlooking Victoria Harbour. Located on the 32nd floor of the EAST Hotel, the venue now features comfy low sofas and armchairs, and a modern but earthy look and feel, making it the perfect setting to kick back in the city. The indoor area is dominated by a long, glowing onyx and timber cocktail bar, with undulating ceilings that create a fresh and light atmosphere. Guests can sip on a range of exquisite new cocktails like the beautifully floral Gin Bloom ($110) and zesty Passionate Dragon ($115). Meanwhile, down on the first floor of the hotel, Feast (Food by EAST) is serving a new summer menu that features healthy and rustic dishes like Green Green Salad, Half a Roasted Organic Chicken, Tandoori Salmon Tikka, and Char-grilled Sea Bass Fillet, among others. Must-order sides include the Truffled Mac & Cheese, and Ratatouille and Spinach – definitely worth making the trip over to the eastern end of the island for.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Hour Returns
The much-loved champagne house is once again giving us a brilliant excuse to go drinking after work with the return if its popular Yellow Hour.
