After creating a public frenzy in Seoul and Taipei, the 37-metre-long inflatable version of American street artist KAWS’ signature character, Companion, is set to make an appearance in Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour this March 22 to 31.
Created in collaboration with Hong Kong-based creative studio AllRightsReserved – which was also responsible for the giant Rubber Duck in Hong Kong back in 2013 – the floating artwork named ‘KAWS:HOLIDAY’ is the largest reclining Companion sculpture to date.
The giant art installation will be floating in the harbour just in time for Hong Kong Arts Month, adding to the experience for art enthusiasts pouring into the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Central Harbourfront for art events throughout the month.
Fans will also be able to get their ‘kaws’ (sorry, we had to) on limited edition collectibles such as the 170cm Companion floating bed ($950), as well as limited Hong Kong edition T-shirts ($390) and tote bags ($390), available on the DING DONG Takuhaibin online store from 9am on March 22.
In the meantime, you can head over to Tai O Fishing Village to catch Companion chilling and recovering from jet lag.
