International Women’s Day 2019: 5 Events in Hong Kong You Can’t Miss

It’s International Women’s Day on Friday and inspiring female leaders across various industries in Hong Kong are rallying to celebrate women’s achievements and female empowerment. Here are some of the best events happening around town.

International Women’s Day At Old Bailey

Toast to #GRLPWR at the stunning Tai Kwun bar, Old Bailey, this International Women’s Day as Hong Kong’s leading female bartenders and food and drinks critics take over the bar during happy hour for a good cause. The evening will also be a little preview to the newly launched Friday night happy hour, ‘Book Club’, at Old Bailey. All proceeds will benefit charity Playtao Foreverland, in support of its after-school programs for underprivileged children.

“Women for Women” At Stockton

Head over to Stockton to celebrate the “Women for Women” guest bartending shift at Stockton, featuring three powerhouse female mixologists who will be serving exclusive speciality cocktails to benefit Hong Kong’s leading charity promoting the economic empowerment of migrant domestic workers, Enrich HK. Guest bartenders include Arlene Wong from The Pontiac, Michelle Ki from Chihuly Lounge, Singapore, and Yana Kamaruddin from Atlas, Singapore. Ladies, make sure you arrive at Stockton between 7 and 8pm to receive your token for one complimentary drink!

Animals Asia’s Women’s Day Lunch

Grab the chance to meet influential women such as the founder and CEO of Animals Asia, Managing Director of Asia Pacific for the Good Food Institute, Senior Vet Surgeon of Animals Asia’s Chengdu Bear Rescue Centre, and more, to hear all about the changes they’re making in the community. A four-course vegan lunch and beverage will also be served, so make sure to grab your ticket soon!

Private Cooking Class by Chef Vicky Lau

This International Women’s Day, the queen of French-Chinese fine dining, chef Vicky Lau of Tate Dining Room, will host a private, hands-on cooking class where she will demonstrate three signature dishes, and guide participants as they take to cooking the dishes themselves. The class includes a glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc champagne, and all proceeds will be donated to The Women’s Foundation – a local non-profit that is focused on improving the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong.

When: March 8, 11am – 2pm

How much: $2,500 per person (maximum of 10)

TATE Dining Room x The Old Man

In the evening, chef Vicky Lau from Tate Dining Room will collaborate with Natalie Lau, bartender from the award-winning bar The Old Man,  for a one-off, cocktail pairing eight-course dinner. 15 percent of the night’s proceeds will be donated to local charity The Women’s Foundation.

When: March 8,  7pm – 12pm

How much: $2,500 per person, $1,680 per guest (cocktail pairing at an additional HK$480)
