The Lowdown on Hong Kong’s First Zero Waste Store, Live Zero

We all know that city life can easily lead to a lot of waste creation, but what’s the solution? We all want to do our part to help the environment but most of us don’t even know where to begin. Luckily, bloggers Seth and Julia from For Something More are here to help by giving us the lowdown on Hong Kong’s first zero waste store, Live Zero.

Did you know, it’s been estimated that the average person living in Hong Kong generates 1.36kg of trash per day? From food packaging and take-out containers, to cosmetic bottles, the list goes on. So, if you’re as sick and tired of creating waste as we are, you should check out Live Zero’s bulk food store in Sai Ying Pun.

They opened in February 2018, and they’re already off to a great start. The store sells dry goods such as grains, spices, coffee, and nuts, as well as cleaning and beauty products like shampoo and soap – all without packaging. What this means is, you can either bring your own reusable containers, buy glass jars from their shop, or even use (for free) the glass jars that customers regularly donate to the store.

Progressive Products

Better yet, nearly all of their products are organic and fair-trade, and many of their reusable water bottles, lunch boxes, and various types of kitchenware, are from companies that are Women-Owned certified.

Waste Not, Want Not

Since you can take as little or as much as you’d like from the various bulk-bins at this zero waste store, you’ll no longer have to buy massive quantities of spices, coffee, or grains only for them to get stale on your shelves at home. So it not only reduces your waste in the long-run, it’s also lighter on your wallet.

Have a Look For Yourself

To get the best idea of what Live Zero has going on, you should check it out for yourself, or browse the online store. When you do, don’t forget your containers!

So, there you have it, Live Zero is making Hong Kong (and the world) a greener, healthier, and less wasteful place, and that is something we fully support!
