SCREENING: Genocide Awareness Event, Watchers of the Sky, May 13

“Why is the killing of a million a lesser crime than the killing of an individual?” – Raphael Lemkin

Polish-Jewish lawyer Raphael Lemkin lost 49 members of his family in the Holocaust and now he is here to tell his story. Don’t miss the premier of this award-winning film which explores the phenomenon of genocide through the riveting and tragic story of this fascinating man who dedicated his life to passing the 1948 Genocide Convention, banning the crime.

Watchers of the Sky aims to raise awareness of mass atrocities and advance mutual understanding across cultural and geographic boundaries. As the film narrates Lemkin’s legacy, it provokes us to consider the threads that connect mass atrocities, wherever they might occur, and asks us to question, how do we fight this virus? As individuals, as nations, as a world?

A post screening panel, including the producer and regional scholars, will address modern genocide as well as mark the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the 40th anniversary of the Cambodian Genocide.
