As the fight for democracy in the streets of Hong Kong garners increasing world wide media attention in recent days, demonstrators are also journaling activities from the front lines of Occupy Central. Hong Kong, rarely associated with large scale protests involving tear gas and riot shields, has suddenly given the world images of a city filled with residents fighting for their democratic freedom.
Despite escalating confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officials, the majority of the staged sit-in by Occupy Central, additional political groups, and individual residents has been peaceful. There has been no major destruction or looting and demonstrators can be found cleaning up the streets behind them, keeping Hong Kong the way its citizens want it – as home.
