Here at Localiiz we love to support local talent, so naturally we were over the moon to hear that Hong Kong based filmmaker Alex Rodriguez just scooped the award for best video in South East Asia at the global Sony Professional competition.
After featuring his breathtaking masterpiece, Hong Kong Urban Tour on our website last month, Rodriguez went on to beat over 350 entries and win a brand new Sony Alpha 7SII camera and his rightful title of regional winner in the prestigious competition.
Maybe it was the cocktail of epic shots, the intense hyper-lapse action, or the adrenaline-fueled ride through our buzzing city that earned your votes and won the hearts of Sony’s expert judges. Whatever it was, he certainly deserved to win, having spent three weeks shooting the video and clamping his camera on to buses, taxis, and even skateboards to capture incredible footage of our city.
“I just enjoyed shooting this project and I never expected to be a winner, especially for an international competition for Sony.”
According to Rodriguez, many entries were made by a crew of professionals with very expensive gear, but in his case, he relied on his 5DMKII camera, a couple of lens, a DIY timelapse slider, and most importantly, his creativity to capture every shot in his video.
“I want to thank all the Localiiz readers who watched my video and voted for me, your support helped get me enough ‘likes’ to be one of the top ten South East Asia entries and be judged by professionals. I am delighted to win a new camera, I feel like a kid at Christmas with my brand new ‘toy’ and I can’t wait to use it for my next project.”
And we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next – stay tuned Hong Kong!
