Des Voeux For You: Inviting Proposal Pictures for a Green Haven in Central

Can you imagine seeing Hong Kong’s bustling Des Voeux Road turned into a lush, green traffic-free zone, where we would hear birds chirping instead of taxis honking? Well that could one day be the reality if a team of creative visionaries gets its way.

The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP), MVA Hong Kong Limited (MVA), City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and Civic Exchange have presented city planners with a proposal to transform Des Voeux Road, one of Central’s ugliest streets, into a ‘tram and pedestrian precinct’.

As shown in these digital renderings, it would provide us city slickers with a whole new area to stroll, eat sandwiches, and generally enjoy the great outdoors; and unlike many other Hong Kong ‘green’ spaces, it looks like they’ll actually be some grass!

If the plans are brought to fruition, it would undoubtedly improve air quality and bring a whole new sense of peace to the business-focused Central District. And just think how much safer it would be for all the drunk people tumbling down from Lan Kwai Fong on a Friday night. We for one are in favour!
